Feiss EMRICH
  • 1823 Hemsbach death record (Bräunle Emmerich nee Bensheimer, 60 years old [born c. 1763], wife of Feiss, was born in Mannheim)
  • Bräunle's maiden surname is listed variously in Hemsbach vital records as "Schriesheimer", "Bensheimer", and "Lorsch". There is one family in Mannheim, around the time of her birth, in which all three names converge - Moses Schriesheim, son of Liebmann, was married to Zerle nee Bensheim. After Moses died in 1766, Zerle married Maier Lorsch in 1769 (documented in Mannheim Ratsprotokolle and Kaufprotokolle records). Since Braünle was married and both of her parents died before official surnames were adopted in 1809, she didn't really have a maiden surname. Nevertheless, each of these three surnames could meaningfully describe her "surname" prior to marrying into the Emrich family: Schriesheim (her father's birth family name), Bensheimer (her mother's birth family name), and Lorsch (her mother's last married family name).
  • Furthermore, these parent's name fit well with the names of Feiss and Bräunle's children (in order): Moses (Bräunle's father, since Feiss' father was still alive and his father's father had the same name), Liebmann (Bräunle's father's father), Zipera (Feiss' father's mother, since both his and Bräunle's mothers were still alive), Abraham (unknown, possibly Feiss' mother's father), Sara (Bräunle's mother, since Zerle is a variation of the name).
